Jenny Chapman MP

The Quakers are coming home

It’s great news that Darlington Football Club is returning to the town from Bishop Auckland, says Jenny.

The MP has been closely involved in the delicate negotiations to end the club’s four-year exile and sign an agreement with the rugby club to play at Blackwell Meadows.

“After a long struggle, it’s great that the club is coming home,” she said. “A football club is the beating heart of a community.

“This is a new beginning, with the prospect of a growing fan base, a secure future for both clubs and, I hope, an end to the roller-coaster ride supporters have had to endure.

“And, with promotion in sight this season, who knows? We could soon see the club returning to the Football League, too!”

Jenny paid tribute to the negotiators from both clubs and from Darlington Borough Council. “I know how hard people have worked to achieve this,” she said.

“But we must not forget the supporters who have stayed with the club throughout the hard times. They are the ones who have made this possible, through their patience and dedication to the cause.”
