Today I am celebrating the landmark centenary year of some women being given the right to vote.
It is a proud moment for us to celebrate the tremendous courage women have shown through the years and those who fought so hard for change. They leave behind them a proud legacy, achievements which we have been able to build on over the past century and work which we continue to champion today.
We can use today's celebrations to look forward to the possibilities for the next 100 years and make 2018 a year of great achievement for women and girls everywhere.
Marking the 100th anniversary, I will be a part of a year-long campaign nationally and in my position as your representative that will celebrate the great achievements of the women suffrage movement and look at how we can take the next steps to achieve full equality for women. The news from the past year has shown all of us just how much more work there is left to do.
