Breast cancer clinic to reopen

Jenny welcomes return of relocated clinic!

Jenny Chapman MP has welcomed the proposed return of the Darlington Breast Cancer Clinic, relocated to Bishop Auckland last year. Jenny has worked with Healthwatch Darlington and the Breast Cancer Patient Support Group to help bring about this achievement.

Darlington Borough Council Health Scrutiny Committee was informed of the decision, subject to a formal agreement by County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, yesterday (7th Jan 2015).

Regrettably, the return of Darlington's breast cancer services will mean the closure of Bishop Auckland's clinic, as clinics are being consolidated from four to two hospitals: Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham.

Speaking to the Northern Echo, Jenny said of the decision, 'It is the only sensible conclusion that the trust could have reached. I want to acknowledge those in the town who campaigned against the loss of the service.

'I've had a lot of comments from woman who have struggled to get to Bishop Auckland and the trust really nereds to consider transport for those who now need to reach Darlington.'

The clinic is expected to be operational by April this year.
